The recent establishment of the Irish Film Board in Galway has attracted a veritable phlethora of film and documentary makers to the city. The Film Fleadh during the annual Arts Festival has also provided a showcase for these short and feature length film makers. In addition, Galway's situation, close to the Gaeltacht (Irish speaking area) means that it has become the launching pad for its twenty-odd television and film production companies. These companies have been encouraged to locate in this area through financial incentives offered by the Government.
